K-Phos is a major breakthrough in the field
of corrosion protection. It was developed to provide a simple
method of applying an organic sealed phosphate coating to
metal. Highly resistant to rust and corrosion, it provides
an excellent bond for Gun Kote. Easily applied, K-Phos offers
the protection against rust and corrosion formerly available
only by means of a complex system of tanks and solutions.
Surfaces treated with K-Phos can be exposed to weather for
several days until a final finish is applied without losing
its protective effectiveness.

Before Treatment After Treatment
Chipping and Peeling
Because of the fine crystalline structure of the phosphate
coating that is combined with the organic binder, K-Phos provides
improved impact and bend resistance, superior to conventional
phosphate treatments.
Easy to Use
K-Phos is a non-aqueous liquid chemical that is applied at
room temperature as supplied to the user. One gallon will
cover from 1200 to 1800 square feet. Two simple steps are
involved in the application of K-Phos:
First, the surface to be treated is thoroughly cleaned. Machined
surfaces need only to be solvent cleaned to remove all traces
of oil, grease or similar contaminants. Surfaces with scale,
rust, or corrosion should be solvent cleaned, sandblasted
to expose the bright metal.
Second, K-Phos is applied and allowed to stand 10 to 15 minutes
or until dry to the touch.
Tests
In laboratory tests, steel panels treated only with K-Phos
have been subjected to the standard salt test for 72 hours
without a breakdown of the coating. Painted panels, scored
through to bright metal, after 250 hours showed a fine line
of rust only where the bare metal was exposed.
Uses
K-Phos can be used as a protective pre-finish treatment. Manufacturers
find it the perfect solution to rust and corrosion problems
on all types of machinery and farm equipment, tools, nuts
and bolts, metal office furniture, fluorescent light fixtures,
iron railings, wrought iron furniture and fixtures, boat trailers,
electrical switch boxes, water heaters, lawn mowers, bicycle
frames, etc. Because of the ease of application, painters
and metal finishers, mechanics and machinists, farmers and
homeowners can use K-Phos wherever positive rust prevention
is required.
Meets Government Requirements
K-Phos meets the requirements of specifications Mil-C-490A
and TT-C-490 applicable to phosphate coatings.
